Tank Girl

UPDATE: Volume 3 out now.

Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin’s Tank Girl remains one of the most fascinating characters to come out of British comics. This Antipodean, Panzer-driving menace took its influences from the anarchy of the Beano, the violent futurism of 2000AD and the sophisticated, sexy, druggy underground comic movements of America. Add in a healthy dash of British art school hipster and a sympathetic publisher in Deadline magazine, and you’ve got all the ingredients for something magical.

Hewlett famously moved on to different things, teaming up with Blur’s Damon Albarn for a variety of projects, while Martin has tried resurrecting the character a few times. But most fans would probably agree that the original Jamie Hewlett-illustrated series remains the best.

So Tank Girl fans rejoice, because this original series has been remastered and is now back in print – the first three volumes, collecting the first 40-or-so episodes, are out now.
