Spirit, The
With Frank Miller at the helm of the character’s long-overdue Hollywood debut, you can expect to start hearing a lot about Will Eisner’s The Spirit. While Darwyn Cooke’s comic-book revival is well worth a visit, those who want to get a feel for the original could do worse than checking out these two reprint volumes.
The Best of The Spirit sees 22 episodes from Eisner’s original series recoloured in the original style (with a very limited palette) to bring this ground-breaking work to a new audience. While The Spirit: Femmes Fatales picks out 23 early stories focussing on the strip’s powerful, dangerous and alluring female characters.
