Jeff Hawke: Overlord

WIN one of five copies of Jeff Hawke: Overlord, courtesy of Titan Books – read on to find out how to enter.

Reprints of old newspaper strips are all the rage at the moment, but Titan Books has been republishing British newspaper strips for years. With successful collectors editions of James Bond and Modesty Blaise strips dominating the shelves, the new series of Jeff Hawke books is a welcome return to science fiction.

Created by Sydney Jordan, Jeff Hawke has been an inspiration for many a modern sci-fi artist. This first volume features four stories originally printed in the Daily Express between 1960-1, often considered the golden age of the Jeff Hawke strips, when Willie Patterson was helping out on plots and scripts. The four stories included in this collection are Overlord, Survival, Wondrous Lamp and Counsel for the Defense.

Unlike the sci-fi heroes that followed him, Jeff Hawke rarely uses brute-force or violence when diplomacy is more likely to get him through, providing something of a unique and very post-war British take on fantasy adventure stories.
