In all honesty we thought it was the weakest of the Countdown to Infinite Crisis books, but if you have a soft spot for the interesting array of alternative magical heroes that Bill Willingham wrote into Day of Vengeance, they’re back in this follow-up. Nightmaster, Ragman, Nightshade, Blue Devil, Enchantress and Detective Chimp (yes, he’s a talking monkey) are all present and correct, solving the mysteries and fighting the villains that DC Comics’s premier league of superheroes can’t, won’t or simply can’t be bothered to fight. Batman and Superman make appearances to keep the action relatively grounded as the Shadowpact heroes fight their evil counterparts – The Pentacle.
