Shakespeare’s Christmas comedy Twelfth Night is the latest play to get the manga treatment. Adapted by Richard Appignanesi and illustrated by up and coming British manga star Nana Li, it mutates Shakespeare’s fictional land of Illyria into a steam-punk inspired back-drop.
Twelfth Night is a romantic comedy where two different sex twins are shipwrecked and separated. By pretending to be a boy, the female twin manages to get a job in the service of a local Duke, and is sent by him to deliver messages to his unrequited love. Trouble is, she falls in love with the messenger instead.
