If there’s one thing that graphic novels are missing, its a soundtrack. Few movies and TV shows are brave enough to forgo music but, on the whole, it’s not an option that’s available to comics.
This is the exception to prove the rule – the comics in this volume are specifically influenced by a selection of songs by Bob Dylan, and would probably benefit from being read with the music of this unique, generation-spanning artist being played as you read.
Even without the tunes, Dylan’s poetic lyrics echo through the years and the artists inspired here have chosen a range of different tunes, including obvious greats like Blowin’ in the Wind, Like a Rolling Stone and Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door. Some interpretations are obvious, some more artistic, but all will be of interest to a serious Dylan fan looking for more ways to examine the artist’s work.
